Awareness at the Velodrom

Safe. Respectful. For Everyone.

The Velodrom is a place where all visitors should feel safe and respected. We are creating a “safer space”—a space where people are welcome regardless of their backgrounds.
We are aware that inappropriate behavior can occur. Discrimination, sexual violence, transphobia, homophobia, racism, ableism, and antisemitism have no place here. Our Awareness Team is here to support you if you feel distressed or need help.

Our Position

  • Zero tolerance for discrimination, (sexual) violence, harassment, and abuse of power.
  • Victim-centered & supportive: We believe the victims and act in accordance with their needs.
  • A process rather than a one-time measure: Prevention → Intervention → Follow-up & Learning.

Here's How to Recognize the Awareness Team

At most of our events, a trained Awareness Team is on site—clearly identifiable (wearing pink “Awareness” shirts or vests) and moving around the venue. The team works closely with medical staff and security.

Our Points of Contact

At the Velodrom, you can always ask any B.E.S.T. staff member, the staff at the coat check, or our colleagues at the food stands for help.

If you need help—here's how it works

  1. 1. Contact: Awareness Team (pink shirts) or staff at the entrance, bars, coat check, or first aid station.
  2. 2. Protection & Calm: Escort to the Awareness Station / safe space.
  3. 3. You decide: Next steps (take a break, be escorted to friends, contact security or first aid staff, or, if necessary, be referred to specialized services).
  4. 4. Documentation: Anonymized—for quality assurance and learning.

FAQ

What is “Awareness”?
Mindfulness and responsibility to prevent burnout, violence, or discrimination and to empower those affected—with clear procedures ranging from prevention to follow-up.

Who should I contact?
You can contact any staff member from Security, Food Service, or First Aid.

What happens if boundaries are crossed?
Protecting those affected by providing initial medical and/or psychological assistance is the top priority. Consequences for perpetrators may include being asked to leave the premises or being banned from the venue.

Why are you communicating this publicly?
Visibility acts as a preventive measure, lowers inhibitions, and increases the likelihood that satisfied guests will return.
